I had to write this review on this hotel: i just checked in and the check in was fast. I walked into a modern white decorated room, with great working desk, no chair! Wanted to send laundry for pressing for tomorrow 8 am meeting, no laundry bag. Opened to get a bottle of water, the mini bar is there, plugged and empty. Ordered room service, took me 3 calls and 45 minutes later they replied. I get a tray full of aluminium foil covered dishes, a bottle of water with no glasses. Finally TV was not working. After 4 calls to reception, and the promise to send a technician, they say: general tv failure in hotel, only God knows when it will be back... But wifi is working, thank God.
Stayed here for 3 nights, Lives up to its 5 star rating, very calm atmosphere, clean hotel, spacious rooms, 24 hour room service, free wifi. The Italian restaurant was amazing! its more expensive than other restaurants in Tunisia but you have to remember where you are. Pool and beach both lovely,camel/horse rides available. staff were very helpful and polite. Lots of spa/beauty treatments available. Not too far from other towns if you have a car, La marsa and Sidi bou Said are about 10mins away and definately worth visiting, Will stay here again!
I stayed in this hotel in June this year for 4 nights. The hotel was quite a distant from the city. My room was very big but not practical at all - the position of the TV and sofa were somehow awkward. I took all my meals at the hotel - the food was plentiful but after the second day it was too much for me having of the same food. Nevertheless, I love the fresh dates and figs they have there. This hotel also has a wellness centre, gigantic swimming pool, nice beach behind the hotel which comes alive at night. Since I came for business, this hotel is not for me.
Maybe this was once a 5-star, but certainly no more. The problem is that no one cares-for the service, for the grounds and certainly not for the guests. "Not possible" is the watchword, whether it's an iron in the room, opening the gym before 8AM (yes, 8!), an adapter that is promised in the list of services or anything else that might involve work. Always a pained look, never a smile. TV is local broadcasts only, not even Al Jazeera. Everything from stained paintwork to old, worn towels, to the creaking and filthy shuttle-bus, to stopped-up drains reeks of neglect.
Hotel in a wonderful position, overlooking a beautiful clean uncrowded beach. The room and balcony looked over the deep blue sea, Decor was modern but included aspects of the local traditions. The foyer was beautiful with overhanging plants and intricate wooden fretwork. The bedroom was very comfortable, quiet , and very clean. Restaurant was excellent- we stayed half board- and staff were most welcoming and helpful. The situation of the hotel was away from the local village but we knew that and had no problems. There were plenty of taxis and we hired a car. There were few English people as it's not a coast which is promoted so much in the UK. There were mainly French and a few German visitors, but English is widely spoken by staff.A great hotel, excellent value for money and we would return.
I only stayed for one day during the weekend. The private beach is clean; much nicer than the public one next door. There is security staff by the beach and pool area; so I felt comfortable leaving my belongings on the sunbed. The indoor swimming pool is also well kept. There is a SPA Center inside; with plenty of offerings. The gym is bigger from those in other hotels in the area. Overall it was a nice experience.
This hotel doesn't meet 5 stars... not even 3. It is true that the architecture is beautiful and the hotel must have really been a palace when it opened, however, just like the city of Carthage, all that is left is ruins. I went there with all my family, we were 5 and we had a total of 3 room in the supposed "renovated" area of the hotel. The rooms were nice, with a beautiful view to the pool but beware, the safe's don't work so passports and money have to be always on you. The Breakfast was alright, however if you wanted freshly pressed orange juice you had to pay, I believe, 3 euros. To me this seemed very strange for a 5 star hotel, but it gives an insight as to what type of personalities manage this hotel. Lunch was mediocre at best, the dinning room is huge, and there are many stations where you can choose what you feel like but the problem was all the stations had the same food! so you think you have a lot of choice but in reality there is just a lot of the same thing. Dinner however was not bad, there was more choice, but still many things weren't cooked properly. Now for the climax: The second day of our stay, we decided to go sight seeing, when we came back we went straight to have dinner, it hadn't been an hour, but when we came back to our room, one of our laptops, which was left in the room on the night stand, had disappeared. At first I couldn't believe it, in a 5 star hotel? really? you pay to be comfortable, you go there to relax, you think you can trust. But no... I must say the security people were very concerned and tried their best to find the laptop, even questioned some people, but the management of the hotel was a different story. First they wanted to wait until the light of day to check our rooms for the computer... This to me not only seemed insulting but a waste of time given the fact that our room was closed and it was probably the personnel who were involved. Time went on, and no results were found. Everyday we asked, and everyday nothing...Oh and, no, they don't have ANY cameras, because “it goes against the privacy of the clients,” this to me again, seemed ridiculous, every 5 star hotel should have cameras, so that the clients CAN feel safe. You cannot imagine what its like to not have anyone help you, to have suffered such an injustice and not even be offered a compensation! Furthermore, for the rest of our stay we couldn’t leave the hotel, as we had 2 more computers and were worried to leave them in the room, even for dinner we had to bring all of our stuff down, just in case! This is no hotel, no vacation.... More and more I believe that this isn't the 1st time this has happened, and that they are used to this sort of situation, as a matter of fact I know we weren’t the only ones that had something stolen that night, but they wouldn’t give us any information-.. The symbolic value that was in that computer can never be replaced. The reason I am writing this review isn't to bash on this hotel, it's so other people will read this and believe me when I say: Do not stay here! For the money you pay, it's not worth it, for the food they serve, it's not worth it, for its proximity to the center, not worth it, for the comfort, not worth it. Just go somewhere else...
This was probably once a great hotel. Today it still has the grandeur of the vast marble reception, and lovely friendly staff, but room I had was in need of the once-over - all over. No bottled water in room. No soap. Mini bar was empty, and the shower intermittently scalded and froze. There was a chill mistral blowing when i was there, so I only put my fingers in the enormous and inviting pool. For a family holiday in Tunis, without too great an expectation, this would be an OK choice.
