Been in Bangkok twice and stayed here both times. Ideal location for me as I wanted to be near all the nightlife and hustle and bustle. Lots of great little bars on the street, especially macaroni bar I think its called, great cocktails and entertainment! 5 mins from the famous koh San road. Great hotel, I'll be staying again when I return to Bangkok!
I spent 5 nights at Viengtai hotel in October/November 2012. It is an absolute bargain, a nice clean cool hotel with spacious rooms and everything you need at an excellent price and it is situated on a lovely street, one street from Kho San Road, with lovely bars and restaurants, shops, taxis and tuk tuks! I would absolutely recommend it and would go back.
I am sure in its day this place was great but I found it noisy, slightly damp and decidedly average. We were on the same floor as the pool and right next to the maids station. They kept us awake shuffling about and chatting and woke us up really early cleaning. The corridor smelt...odd. The staff weren't particularly friendly and it's on a very noisy street. I needed earplugs. Not great.
I stayed here for one night. I paid about 1,600 baht for it. Whilst its NOT directly on khaosan Road, it's only a couple of mins away. There is still noise, but not enough to stop you from sleeping. The entrance to the hotel looks very grand & incredibly clean. The porter is quick to take your luggage & was very polite. However, on the only 2 times I spoke to the people behind reception I found them to be quite rude - but I don't really care about that. I found the room to be very dark & depressing. The air con worked to a good standard. The bathroom had the usual freebies in it & you had some water for free. The room just didn't let any light in and I just found the decor to depress me... As extreme as it sounds! However, the pool wasn't a bad size for a hotel in bangkok... 15m perhaps? Enough for me to just about do some front crawl lengths. There was also a gym there that looked alright. I wouldn't stay there again - there IS better for less nearby. Give this one
We recently stayed here for one night before heading to Vietnam. The hotel is in a good location. I asked for a quiet room and it was. The room was dated but clean. The check in was quick and easy and the breakfast was included and was really nice and fresh. Would recommend. We booked through Agoda and paid $70 for the night including breakfast.
The hotel is big and at a excellent location. It was always quiet and the staff is friendly and helpful. I specially liked the pool - even when it was a bit smelly at one day. The breakfast has a wide variate of food and the taste is ok but optimized to be eatable for every one. If you like the real Thai taste, go eat some where else. There is a Tour-Office in the entrance hall which you better avoid to get good rates.
I guess being in the Khao San region you expect party animals to be going all night. However one block away is this hotel in the midst of many restaurants and bars with live music till very late at night. Perhaps the supplied earplugs should have warned me! The hotel itself is very good and relatively modern and an easy walk from the bus that drops passengers off from the Gulf Islands (Samui, Tao etc) in the evening. Breakfast is passable but you will want to eat in the numeropus restaurants very nearby for other meals I've stayed here several times but the noise seemed worse this time.
A gem of a hotel in a fantastic location.the river is a short walk away(cheap boat rides to most temples/palace).very large and clean rooms, breakfast was very good.loads of night life close by and great for buyng some great holiday clothes shorts, quality t shirts,it should only cost 600 baht to get to from the airport(£12).no problems with noise, slept very well.swimming pool was good but could have done with a good clean,it needed hoovering. will definately use again.
We stayed at the Viengtai for 2 nights in July on our travels around Thailand. The hotel itself is right next to Kao San road so in a really good location to be close to all the nightlife. The hotel itself is ok - nothing to shout about either way. It's clean, the rooms are dated but the beds are comfy and they all come with an en suite. The breakfast was quite good, had all the usually bits and you could ask for omelettes, eggs etc to be made fresh. The staff were all friendly and the prices for food in the hotel was reasonable. It's so cheap to eat out in the restaurants around Kao San road I would definitely recommend staying round there if you want to eat cheap. There is also a hair salon just across the road which is great charged me £3.50 for a wash, blow dry and straighten and they did my hair better then it's ever been before!! (I live in London and have been to top selling salons but now I realise that they aren't actually that good at doing hair compared to the ladies in Tha
I stayed at this hotel on my own before a tour and then for another night with the tour group, therefore I stayed in both the standard and deluxe room. Both were suitable for my visit. I didn't spend much time in my room so as long as it was clean I was happy. I loved the location and wasn't bothered by the noise at all (I am a good sleeper though). Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok, but I was drawn to the eateries along the street outside the hotel. I also used the hotel airport limousine pick up which was well worth the money (approx $45 AUD). I am heading back to Bangkok in Feb 2011 and will stay here again. Btw.. another reviewer mentioned the tour desk next door - they are very friendly and helpful
