Rented a studio unit in Pirates Pension. Terrific view of the harbor. Studio unit was spacious and clean, units a little dated. The staff at the resort were friendly and responded immediately when I reported a light out in my entryway. The concierge was EXCEPTIONAL, very friendly, terrific recommendations.

Stayed here while using our RCI weeks. First time with a vacation club and this resort was very pleasent and helpful. Our room was large with a nice view of the ocean and town. Bed and sheets were very comfortable, had a nice sized mini fridge and a balacony. The resorts rooms are divided up into groups but you have a nice view from all of the rooms. The restaurants on site were amazing. There are three, we ate at two and had great service and all the food was wonderful. The hotel is in a very nice location inbetween the cruise port and Main street. You can walk it but the hill is very steep, would recommend a car.

My husband and I just returned from a four night stay at Villas II on the third floor. Our room was spacious and clean with a fantastic view of the harbor. We had heard about the bug issues, but were amazed that there wasn't a single insect to be found during our stay! Makes you wonder about insecticide. Kitchen was fine and equipped with everything we needed. We opted to buy some breakfast foods, snacks, and wine which worked out great. While the furniture was not new, it was ok. Nothing luxurious, but acceptable. We ate at both the Banana Tree Grille and Room with a View. Both were fantastic meals with knowledgeable and friendly staff and those beautiful views. Both are quite expensive, but nothing out of line with the rest of the island. We had a drink and appetizer at the pub-like bar. Good service. Our app was good, but I can't comment on the rest of the food. We didn't use the pool, but it seemed clean and pleasant - nice waterfall. There is a really tiny hot tub, but every time we went past it was filled with small children splashing (and whatever else) around. Nope. We arrived at about 3:45 pm and were told that check in wasn't until 4. Really? Once we waited our 15 minutes, we were given a key and shown a map. No offer of bell service or assistance. When we went to the lobby on our first morning to ask how to get fresh towels, we were told to call housekeeping. We DID call, but no one answered. We were advised to "call again". Gee, thanks. Finally, someone else told us to use the blue mesh laundry bag and just "leave it outside the door". That worked and we returned to fresh towels, but they were left in the bag outside the door. No one cleaned the room, emptied trash, etc. Since we had food, we ended up emptying our own trash - not a big deal, but definitely not a "first class' resort. Rent a car! We are in great shape and love to walk. The hills were not a problem, but the lack of sidewalks, narrow streets, and fast drivers made walking into town (especially at night) a very dangerous proposition. We did it once and considered ourselves lucky to get back in one piece! Luckily we had a Jeep as we had planned to take several excursions, so while we were disappointed at not being able to walk to town, at least we had transportation. We checked out (by the very early 10am) and left only to remember that I left a pair of earrings on the bathroom counter. Inexpensive crystal studs - NOT valuable. We returned, were escorted by a really nasty security woman back to our room to find the cleaning woman and another man cleaning the room. I explained that I left the earrings on the counter and she said she hadn't cleaned the bathroom yet, although the room was spot clean. I also noticed the food, etc. that we left neatly piled on her cleaning cart (bottled water, 3/4 of a can of coffee, etc.). We expected that it would either go to good use or be thrown out, so no problem there, and while I can't prove she had my earrings, I am positive that I left them. It just left a bad taste. Overall, we had a great vacation, but the lack of cordial and caring staff and the fact that there is no daily maid service really takes this off the "resort" list for us. I understand that the restaurants are separately managed - maybe the hotel management can take lessons from them - they are great.

We just spent eight days at BBC, a pleasant surprise! The unit, hilltop III, #207, had the most spectacular view of the harbor. The room had new furniture, sleep sofa, table with 4 chairs, dresser, flat screen tv and best of all a king size bed. The mini fridge, microwave, stovetop and coffee maker, plus all the cutlery, plates & glasses you could need were also supplied. The staff were more than accommodating, pleasant and friendly. All three restaurants on site were very good. The two Nicole's in the Cabana Bar were very good. Steve the bartender at A Room with a View was also a wealth of knowledge on what was a must see or where to go. James keeps the Banana Tree Grill bar hopping...Food at all three were in the above average category, one would never go hungry at this resort. Would definitely return to this location. A car is an absolute must to get around the island, cabs are pricey. Local grocery store, Pueblo's, was close by and was what was expected for island shopping. Morningstar beach near the Marriott was perfect for days in the sun and fun in the surf. Bring binoculars if you can, watching all the mega yachts and cruise ships coming and going was so interesting.

We received a week here as a honeymoon gift from family who own a timeshare. I was a little worried to come to be honest; the resort has been through a lot of changes in regards to ownership and recently had a large renovation. Some of the reviews have been pretty harsh, so I was worried. We were pretty much blown away. The resort sits atop a large steep hill, so the views are breathtaking. The staff in the resort were all so kind and friendly (huge props to K-9 Joe, D'reen and Angie for seriously being wonderful), the room was big, spacious and clean. There were four places to eat one site all of which we visited and enjoyed. We didn't rent a car in St Thomas after being a little worried about causing problems and being confused, but it wasn't a far walk downtown. To be fair, we are both healthy and active; had we not been, getting up and down the hill would have been a huge issue. If you'd rather not walk, there are plenty of taxis to go around, but try to get a trip with the resident driver and tour guide, K-9 Joe. He's fun and knows the island in a personal touching way. If sitting around the resort all day isn't your thing, visit D'reen the Excursion Queen and have her coordinate an adventure for you. The resort offers lots of options and ideas on what to do. The grounds are beautiful. There was a major multimillion dollar update in 2011, and it shows. I hear some of the rooms can be a bit dated, but ours was modern. In exploring a bit of the grounds, it's clear that there are still some areas that are not used that could have a great future if they continue renovating. Since coming back a month ago, I've been literally dreaming of the islands almost nightly. When I go back, I'll gladly stay here again

I had to go to St. Thomas on short notice needed a reasonable priced place to stay. Bluebeards Castle had among the best rates. Getting to the hotel is bit of a task. First off we drive on the left (just like the British) so pay attention or you might end up in a head on collision with a concrete truck (yes we have those). The road going up to the hillside hotel are very narrow and badly on need of resurfacing. Pay attention to the signs or you will miss the turn to the lobby and end up back at entrance at the bottom of the hill. The staff was very friendly and efficient and had me checked in less than 10 minutes. The fact that I arrived at almost 10 pm was probably a factor. The flights from the mainland start arriving after 1 pm so you can probably expect longer check-in time if you arrive between 3 and 5 pm. The room, which was a Pirates Pension, appeared clean and spacious. It included a small refrigerator, small electric stove, sink, microwave and apartment size washer and dryer. Be sure to let the hotel know if you have physical disabilities. Each building is multilevel and there is no elevator. My room was three flights down. The room had a sliding glass door that opened onto a balcony which provided a very nice view of the harbor and the cruise ship dock. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well. If I might digress for a moment, there is a misconception regarding “tropical breezes”. If you are staying on the south side of the island (like I was) and winds are blowing out of the north, you are not going to feel any. You will be glad for that air conditioner. There is convenience store near the lobby however which you get to by stairs. On the way to the hotel I normally buy staples like water, juice, beer and snacks to you keep the room. Now for the down side. Even though the room appeared clean there were obvious signs of wear and tear. The coffee table and dresser were badly on need of refinishing or replacement and one of the dining chairs had ripped upholstery. The bathroom was clean, but it was clear that it was in need of refurbishing. The caulking around the tub and fixtures appeared hastily and sloppily done. Overall the hotel was adequate. It provides clean accommodations for the short term traveler or vacationers on a budget.

Bluebeard's Castle is a unique resort with a mix of history, beauty, modern convenience and comforts in an outstanding location East of Charlotte Amalie. The recent renovations and upgrades are to a high standard with great finishes (with the exception of the bathroom which was a bit older). Hilltop II has fantastic views of the harbour and downtown Charlotte Amalie, our unit was immaculately clean with a small "full kitchen" in the studio apartment with a separate bathroom. The bed was very comfortable, though be warned the mattresses are very soft. All furnishings were new and the in room AC was great. Note there is a hefty utilities charge of US$85 a week for a studio apartment, but remember the AC is always on, and the resort is converting to Solar Power. My biggest complains are thus, the lack of signage put up by contractors when they were paving by Hilltop I, and the cockerels, whic are fed by the groundskeepng staff, making a lot of noise at dawn (between 3 and 5am depending on the weather)! Otherwise our stay was hassle free, the location is great for its convenience as well, it's close to downtown and to Yacht Haven, Port of Sale, and Havensight. It's cheaper to find a Vitran truck than to take a taxi though and there are no shuttles operated by the hotel - factor in this extra cost if you do not have a hire car. I would certainly return to Bluebeard's, it's certainly a family friendly resort and great for couples too.

This resort has a beautiful view, no beach, it was nice to wake up and see different cruise ships docked in the morning. It would be nice to have more dining options, the pool bar was always a nice "go to" for a quick meal. A rental car is a must unless you want to spend lots of cash on taxis; the hotel concierge was very helpful and nice in scheduling off-site excursions.

I recently stayed at this hotel and you need to know that the staff is stealing . I booked a trip to the British Virgin Islands through the hotel Concierge Desk and it so happens that when I came back I found that all my gold jewelry was stolen . I contacted the the Front Desk and they sent down Security to take a report . I was told that I could file a report with the local police department which I did . They came and again took another report . No one ever contacted me regarding the status or finding . I was told by a couple staying in the next room that the housekeeper was in our room for quite a long time and that a cab driver was seen at our door . The hotel management never bothered to question them nor did the police department . My room was only cleaned that one time in the week I stayed , no one else had access to our room and certainly the Concierge knew I would be gone all day , giving them plenty of time to do their deed . Here;s how they do it , you book a trip with the Concierge who knows that you're going to be out all day , she in turns tells the maid who checks out your suitcase and takes whatever she find valuable then the maid calls the cabby who takes it off her hands so she's never seen with anything when she leaves for the day . I was told by a very reliable source that this is how they always operate . They had a safe in my room but there was no lock , I was told I had to go to the Front Desk and get the lock , this was after the fact . In all the information in their " Welcome Package " nothing , absolutely nothing , was written about how to go about getting the lock for the safe , I simply thought it was broken and since the housekeeper was coming just once a week I was safe . You need to understand that I had my jewelry hidden deep in my suitcase and tucked away and not out in the open , she had to dig real hard to find it . The most appalling thing about this was their attitude . I'm still waiting for a " We're so sorry this happened " . This is not over . I will use every possible form of social media to expose them . This is just plain wrong !
