Having stayed @ all the chain hotels in down town New Bern this by far the best & has a high bang for the buck factor when compared to the similarly priced but outdated Double Tree. Staff was great, room was clean & The Bistro fare was surprisingly tasty. Highly recommended.
Very newly remodeled by the looks of it. The lobby and rooms was very clean and nice. The front desk clerk very friendly. We got in sort of late and at 9 was looking for dinner everyone was closed, except for pizza delivery. WE ended up eating at the BISTRO in the lobby and it was very good!! WE had flat bread, a burger and it was very good, much better than I anticipated. I would order food there again. I would book a room again also without a second thought!
Spent one night here and from the moment we stepped into the lobby, the staff was smiling, friendly, pleasant and accommodating. Even the gardener outside made a point to smile and say hello to us. This property used to be a Comfort Suites and was sold and renovated, with the overall look being very pleasant and relaxing. We had a river-view room with balcony, overlooking the pool and it was a great size with terrific furnishings and a very comfortable mattress. While you are charged for meals at the bar, the prices are very reasonable and in particular, the breakfast menu was varied and delicious. My wife had the oatmeal and fruit. I had the french toast and fruit. The chef delivered the meals to our table and when I mentioned my concern about running out of syrup, he went right back to the kitchen and brought out some more. As we were preparing to leave our table, he came over and asked how we enjoyed the meal. The front desk staff was not just warm and friendly, but gave great recommendations on places to see and where to eat. Even as we left our room to load up the car, the housekeeping woman made a point to smile and say "good morning" and wished us a pleasant journey home. Bottom line, we found most people in New Bern to be very friendly, but the Courtyard seemed to emphasize this with their entire staff and it was most appreciated.
In today's world of traveling, you come to expect certain things, like breakfast or at least coffee in the lobby. I do believe this is the first hotel we've stayed at that gives neither. As Marriott elite members, we stay often and this will be a place we do not return to. If this were the only issue, I probably would not have posted comments. Unfortunately our A/C also did not work. When the lady at the desk finally returned, we did get another room. After reading previous posts, I was really looking forward to our visit, think we will avoid New Bern next time. As far as the view, the parking lot was not great to look at. I was disappointed they did not give us a room with a view of the water. They were not full, I am sure there was a better room. Again, elite membership does not mean anything at this hotel. The room was clean, but there was no shampoo in our no A/C room, luckily, there was some in the other room. Disappointed is the best adjective I have to describe our stay.
Beautiful views of the Neuse River right in historic downtown with friendly staff at this location. The new renovations were awesome! Walking distance to everything downtown! Highly recommended. We will certainly stay here again.
My husband and I were driving to Atlantic Beach and decided to just take a look at New Bern. We fell in love with the location of the now Courtyard. Stephanie at the front was awesome and answered all of our question about the area. She definitely understands guest relations. The next morning we wee greeted by every staff member that saw us. The view of the river was amazing. We are planning another trip to New Bern and can't wait to stay at this hotel again.
This hotel has just been upgraded to Courtyard by Marriot. It is beautifully decorated, clean, smells wonderful and it has an eat- in Bistro. My husband and I took our two boys on this mini vacation, the location of the hotel sits on the Neuse River with a bridge that appears to be floating on stilits. We had a balcony on our rooms, so we enjoyed the scenery until dark. I must say this is not a great place for kids, the museums and old character houses are definitely for the mature audience. The only annoyance I encountered was rude housekeepers, they were very pushy on the morning of check-out. They started at 10am asking if we were leaving yet, after the third time, my husband said could you give us 30 more minutes- I really didn't get the urgency considering check-out is not until 12 noon.
This hotel is a Marriott property now. My husband booked and and after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor I was a little worried about the renovations. Our stay was wonderful. It appears that all the renovations are complete and it is a very nice hotel. Our room was great and we had a river view which was very pleasant. The staff was exceptional and Kim, that checked us in was very nice and helpful. We would stay here again if we travel to New Bern. It was a very nice hotel and I had absolutely no complaints.
Found a room here at the last minute and counldn't have had a better experience. I saw few signs of renovation, they must be nearing completion, and the newly done rooms are beautiful. Excellent location at the edge of a very small downtown, can walk everywhere. The owners were on site this weekend and personally greeted me.
We booked 3 rooms for a business trip at the Comfort Suites Riverfront Park in New Bern and applied online for Choice Hotels promotion offering a $50 gift card if you stayed two nights at different Choice locations. We made our reservations by getting the local phone number from the Choice website and calling the hotel directly. When we arrived we were met with a marquee sign that said "Renovating!".. The main entrance was closed and we had to enter though a side door. We should have turned around and left right then. There were construction crews everywhere. We entered into a lobby that was was in the midst of being dry walled, had an exposed ceiling and worst of all was completely covered with drywall dust. The exterior concrete porte cochere area in front of the main doors was being ground down and billows of concrete dust blew into the lobby area and the "breakfast area". We should have turn around and left right then. Then the biggest insult came when we checked in and we were told that in spite of the giant "Comfort Suites" sign on the building that they were no longer a Choice Hotel and that our points would not be honored for the promotion and that in a week or two they'd become a Marriott Courtyard but that they couldn't give us Marriott points either. It gets worse. We go to our rooms, all on the fourth floor and it looks like a war zone. Construction workers everywhere, equipment lying in the halls and most rooms without numbers. We actually had to count the rooms and try the keys to find our rooms. Once inside, the rooms were newly renovated - the only upside. No need to leave a wake up call here though. At 5am me and my three co-workers were all awakened by the sound of a load of metal pipes crashing to the ground in front of the building. I managed to fall back to sleep until construction workers in my hallway woke me up at 6:30. One of my coworkers told me they started working on the room next to his at 6am and he woke up to pounding on the wall behind his headboard. Oh, and to top that off, all three of us heard one of the construction foreman telling a crew that the sprinkler system was off on the top floors. Yeah, that makes me feel really safe in a hotel that is under construction. The next day all 3 of us called Choice Hotels customer service line and all three of us were told that there was nothing they could do because we weren't staying at a Choice property. This in spite of the fact that the the front desk answered the phone as Comfort Suites, there were Comfort Suites signs on the building and my bill says Comfort Suites on it. I might feel differently if they would have been up front with us when we made the reservation but they basically lied to us in order to have customers in a period that the hotel clearly should have been closed. I checked and there is a charge on my Visa card for a stay at Comfort Suites Riverfront. I will be disputing that charge since I apparently never stayed at Comfort Suites Riverfront. Choice Hotels has lost this business traveler.
